Can I donate Zakah for your goals of free education in the Quran and Islam?

Yes that is possible. The largest Fatwa agency in the world Al-Azhar Dar al-Ifta al-Misriyyah has presented a study in this regard stating that the teaching of the Quran and Islam falls under the rule of “in the path of Allah”.

Allah mentions in the noble Quran:

The obligatory charity is only for the destitute and the really needy, and those who collect it, and for those in whose hearts the love of Islam needs to be instilled, and to free slaves, and to debtors, and in Allah’s cause, and to the traveller; this is decreed by Allah; and Allah is All Knowing, Wise. [Quran 9:60]

Based on this, there is no objection to giving Zakah to al-Husayn foundation to meet her needs to maintain the science of the Quran, Qira-ah and Islam.

The Ahnaf in this matter adopt a different model where the money is first donated to a poor person and then freely donated to an institution that maintains the teaching of the Quran, for example.

Kindly note that your Zakah will be transferred to the foundation of al-Husayn (Netherlands) which is tasked for the purpose of helping orphans and other projects eligable for Zakah. Alhusayn company (English) is only for the book department.

How do you use the money?

The money is used for printing, preparing the courses and mainly hiring technical personnel (third parties).

In addition, the money is used for paying fees to teachers so that education is free for students.

What is alhusayn.org

alhusayn.org is a separate company focused on the English translations of alhusayn.nl. It is focused to keep work for translation and education intact so that teachers can keep on working and focus on Islamic work.

Any Zakah to alhusayn.org will be transferred to alhusayn.nl foundation for the poor and Quran related projects. This is a Dutch Government Approved Non Profit Organization (ANBI). For an overview of their projects, please visit the following pages: Charity and projects.

For the full transparency, alhusayn.org is not the same als alhusayn.nl. The latter is a non-profit organisation which is eligable for Zakah, while the first one is a commercial company focused on the English market meant to support teachers and workers for islam.
